Savouring British Cuisine: My November Adventures

Welcome back to my second blog entry!

A Month of Memories

A whole month has already passed again. It’s crazy how fast the time goes here!

During half-term, my parents visited for a few days. It was really nice to see them and show them everything. On their first day, I showed them my college and Southampton.

The Classic Sunday Roast

For dinner, we enjoyed a traditional Sunday Roast with my host mum and my host sister from Italy. A Sunday Roast consists of roasted meat, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, and some vegetables. Since I have been here, I’ve had it every Sunday and I really enjoy it.

Exploring the New Forest

On their second day, we visited the New Forest near Southampton. We rented bicycles and had scones in the afternoon. In the evening, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and saw Highcliffe Castle. On their last day, despite the heavy rain, we visited Arundel Castle and its gardens. It was great.

Back to School: Exams and Online Lessons

The week after half-term, I had my first exams and online lessons. Due to the GCSE exams, the college decided to hold online lessons for the week to reduce the number of students on campus.

I had 5 exams: 3 in Maths and 2 in English. They were in the mornings, so I had online lessons in the afternoon. I can’t really say how the exams went, especially English. I just have to wait and see.

Lockdown Life in England

On the 5th of November, the government decided that England would go into lockdown for 4 weeks. This means all non-essential shops and restaurants are closed. Luckily, schools remain open because it would be really boring without them.

Right now, one and a half weeks are left of the lockdown, and I am surprised at how fast it has gone by. During the week, everything is normal, except that we now have to wear masks all day. During the weekend, I don’t do much. Normally, I have a lot of homework, so I do that first.

Weekend Walks and Festive Fun

My host sister and I really enjoy walks, so every Saturday and Sunday, we explore the neighborhood and see nice sunsets.

I love Christmas, and now that December is approaching, I am in a big Christmas mood!

My host sister and I have already watched a few Christmas films, and yesterday we baked Christmas cookies. My mum sent me the recipe for my favourite German cookies. We listened to Christmas songs and had a lot of fun decorating them.

So, this was my update for November. Not a lot has happened because of the lockdown. Let’s see how December will go…
