Winter in Ireland: The Weeks Before Christmas
After my last blog, I had my Christmas exams, spent my final weekend with my host family before the break, and wrapped up two more weeks of school before I could finally reunite with my family. Here’s a glimpse into my December in Ireland:
Tackling Christmas Exams
The majority of my Christmas exams went well, thanks to the intense studying I did in the weeks leading up to them. However, exams in maths and business gave me a reality check about the effort I’ll need to put into studying for my mocks.
I haven’t received all my results yet, but once I do, I’ll create a study schedule to prepare for the mocks. Overall, my first exam week in Ireland didn’t go too badly.
A Festive Last Weekend with My Host Family
My final closure weekend with my host family was magical. We spent time decorating the house for Christmas and indulged in a Harry Potter movie marathon with my friends. After a hectic week of exams, it was a much-needed break to relax and soak in the festive spirit.
The Countdown to Christmas Break
The last two weeks of school before Christmas here in Ireland were lighthearted and full of celebrations. One highlight was the Christmas dinner with all the boarders, followed by a talent show. My friends and I spent hours getting ready for the event, which was a mix of fun and laughter.
Another memorable moment was dyeing my hair blonde and struggling to remove the colour—a unique experience, to say the least! Overall, these weeks were low-pressure and an enjoyable way to bid farewell to school before the holidays.
Exploring Winter Traditions in Ireland
I discovered so much about Irish winter traditions this year. Our city hosted a beautiful winter festival with a Ferris wheel, ice skating, and charming food stalls. Though I didn’t get to explore it fully, the Christmas lights and festive atmosphere were enough to brighten my day.
I also learned about St. Lucia Day, a tradition I hadn’t encountered before coming to Ireland. It’s been a rewarding season of experiencing new cultures and traditions.
Looking Ahead to the Christmas Holidays
As the school term wraps up, I’m counting down the days to reunite with my family after nearly four months apart. I can’t wait to share all my stories from my time in Ireland.
I’m ready for a well-deserved break: sleeping in, staying up late, and enjoying the warmth of the holiday season with loved ones.
